Once again Steve and I attended the Parkinson's Superwalk. This post is a little late as the race was back in September but I wanted to thank everyone again for supporting our cause. Highlights for this year included again having a poorly marked course and Catherine choosing the wrong way to go and not completing the entire circuit. They also included the dog in the photos beside me. See you next year... same time, same place.

Here are me and the Daisy standing next to our newly landscaped deck area. The tree already looks like it is dying. Fireworks were enjoyed mere minutes after the photos and we only had to walk a block to check them out without any worries of traffic snarls across bridges or riots although some guy parking his vehicle in the alley randomly started swearing at an invisible person as he got out of his vehicle.

On our last day in Van we decided to check out the aquarium. Some things are way more fun when you are a small child, such as the miniature train in Stanley Park which I give a huge thumbs down. The aquarium however was still totally cool. A few highlight include watching some otters get their dinner, a few dolphin tricks, a sloth hiding up in the far reaches of the amazon exhibit and this fast bastard pictured above. We must've stood there and watched him for 15 minutes.

These guys look fake but I watched them long enough to see them both at least blink.

As for this guy I just seem to like taking pictues of birds.

Vancouver 2007

We made several trips into Stanley Park and discovered a few interesting bits and birds. There were peacocks randomly walking around the Mounted Police enclosure and they had a little rooster buddy hanging out in the bushes with them.

I spied this book and bottle from the distance and went to investigate as it was kind of in the middle of nowhere. Turns out to be a bottle of balsamic vinegar sitting on top of a bible... odd.

This is Steve on the patio at what my mom tells me is a fancy restaurant, Joe Fortes, that she has never had the pleasure of going to. We just chose it because we wanted to sit on a nice looking patio and enjoy the little bit of sun we got for the day. Of course we sat down and the sun went behind the clouds but it was still a nice lunch. Excellent mussels and I'm not really a mussels fan.

Steve and I decided to take a sunset dinner cruise. The food was ok - we both had salmon. Although it rained all day I made the executive decision that we were going to go rain or shine and thankfully the sun decided to make an appearance for the evening.

New Place

Well here we are in our new place... I can't figure out yet why they gave us possession yet... We still have no phone lines, the lock to our utility room doesn't match any key we were given, the cigarette burn is still in our window frame - we still have no screens on the windows, our dishwasher doesn't drain, we have no shelves for our kitchen cupboards, no toilet paper holders in the bathrooms, dings in doors and cupboards, cracked tile in our patio... I figure we are lucky we had the person come in to hang our blinds and another to hook up our washing machine. I've tried phoning both the builders and our lawyer and nobody seems to either want to bother to phone us back or to take care of anything. We would love to change lawyers to someone who actually cared about the condition of our place but apparently if we switched at this point they could place a lien on our property based on "work done" paperwork wise. I can't see how anyone gets anything done these days as we have been brushed off and literally pooped on every step of the way. Anyone know of any recourse? Can we sue and win? Will any things get done so we can really unpack???? (sorry I used the word poop)

I attempted to post photos from Hawaii and update and I made three different posts with ultra-witty captions and not a one managed to upload... I have since fiddled with both blogger and picassa in an attempt to get photos going and so far nothing... Valentine's dinner was fabulous and work since the morning I got back from our trip until 14 days later has sucked. Our posession date is approaching and all sorts of new troubles have arisen. Mostly due to our real estate agent Kelly Chung from Remax... who at this point I can't decide if she is just complacent about the fact that the market is so hot and just doesn't give a rat's.... or if she is an ignorant... or if I should take the following week off of World of Warcraft, aside from those that will be spent moving, to attempt to create many many many websites spamming her crap status as any kind of agent much less as a real estate agent with any interest with the client beyond the point with which she has her claws on our downpayment and apparently she is then entitled to treat us like trespassers in our own agreement... *deep breath* so yeah pics are coming of many things actually - if I can figure out how to write a post and have the actual words AND photos load... Cheers to that!

5 Things People Don't Know About Me

Steve tagged me to post 5 things people may not know about me. I've been putting it off and can't think of anything interesting but I'm going to give it a shot...

1) OK I'm stuck already... Uh I was a tom boy when I was little, more into computer games and sports than make up and shopping. That's probably not really a surprise.

2) I'm bilingual. I have an Arts degree with a Major in French Language and Literature and a minor in Paleontology. I started taking french in kindergarten but you rarely hear me speak it. If you ever need someone to decifer the french channel for you give me a shout.

3) In my lifetime I've travelled to every province and territory in Canada (with the exclusion of the newly formed Nunavut) . I've been to England, Ireland, Scotland, Italy, Germany and France. I've travelled to California, Arizona, Washington, Idaho and Hawaii. I've also been to Mexico, Cuba, the Bahamas, the US Virgin Islands and St.Martin. We leave for Hawaii in 3 weeks and next stop according to Steve is somewhere in Europe for the honeymoon (I vote spain or Italy!).

4) I used to weigh 200lbs. I don't think that is earth shattering news but for those who didnt know or wouldn't suspect... there it is.

5) My middle name is Jane. Yay - there ya go.

The first three photos are of us tanning and snorkeling in St.Johns. Many people have rated this beach as one of the best in the world (I liked the one in St.Martins better but it was very commercial so I bet this one wins because it is a nature preserve and thus much more quiet, clean and uncluttered). The final photo is of Steve, Angie and I atop Paradise Point in St. Thomas. Beautiful view of the island from up here!

We had a busy weekend for Charity Walks. Here are some photos of us participating in the AIDS/HIV Walk For Life in downtown Edmonton. Chyna managed to make it most of the way but Daisy petered out quite quickly. Steve had to carry a 20lb lump most of the way!
Edmonton drivers are crazy! We almost got run over twice by impatient people! Remind me to stick to charity events that take place in nice quiet parks.

September 23rd, Steve and I will be doing the Parkinson's Superwalk at Rundle park here in Edmonton. I have been doing this walk for the past 3 years hoping that it is contributing to a finding a cure for Parkinson's.
Every year I do the walk for Steve's Grandpa. This year is going to be tough this year his Grandpa was sent to the hospital suffering from the effects of Parkinson's and has not came out since.
This weekend, Steve is going back home to see him for what may be the last time so it would mean a lot to him and myself if you could sponsor me (or if you don't like me sponsor Steve) in this year's SuperWalk.

Yay for taking a weekend off for once! Steve and I headed out to Pigeon to meet up with Mel and Brian. Steve is off in Calgary today attending yet another nerd conference. I imagine he will be staying in Calgary for a while to catch some of the game before he heads back home tonight. I will be leaving shortly for Melissa's place where there will be hockey, burgers, babies and dogs. Mel is one of my clients at work but we have since developed a friendship and I am looking forward to seeing her again after she was in Australia for 3 weeks. I have no new photos although I think I may bring my camera tonight. The condo is still dragging along and I don't foresee it being done before August. Soccer is going well with 2 wins and a tie that should have been a win... Work is OK - have a busy week ahead and then I have a crazy four days from the 8th to the 11th as I will be attending both a Medical Exercise Specialist certification course as well as having my convocation, going to the Pilates concert Saturday at the Starlite, having my parents and Steve's parents over for a grad party the Friday night and having soccer practice on the Sunday. Hope I have enough steam to get it all done! Go Oil Go!

I am just sitting here thinking about things. It is humorous now looking back at all my recent posts. I imagine this would be what it would be like if I turned into a parent and all I ended up doing was posting baby pictures and telling everyone about all the times I had to change diapers and blah blah blah. Change of subject! - I still get a much better feeling at the end of the day at my job as opposed to the bar stint. Quite a few times it really seems like I make a difference and introduce people into something that they can really enjoy. Too bad Mom and Dad aren't here for me to whip into shape a little harder than they push themselves! Love you guys - keep swimming and cross training!

Hey Mel - I apologize for posting more about dogs but as you know our game tonight was cancelled... I went to Game 6 Detroit vs. the Oil and man was that a heart attack and a half! Steve had originally lied to me about how much he spent on his "2 rows from the Oilers bench seats" and I'm not sure how he figured I wouldn't be able to read the actual ticket cost when he let me trade seats for a period... In any case he ended up enjoying the view better from the standing room seat and I massively enjoyed sitting right in the action for 2 periods. The poor Red Wings fan sitting next to me conceeded defeat in the end. I turned to him and informed him I would be tossing his Red Wings cap on the ice and he paused for a few seconds but then capitulated and I had the honor of throwing a cap on the ice. We adjurned to the Boorman residence for a beer and then briefly hit the madness that was Whyte. I promptly decided that I was excited for the win but not excited for the bar scene and gathered Steve up for our cold walk home. Good thing the continued electric vibes from the game kept us somewhat warm on the way home. The pizza Steve bought didn't hurt either!

Indoor is over and we managed to stay afloat in the Premier Division however it looks like our team is disbanding. My soccer team has been having some numbers issues as of late. I managed to get most of them in for a spin class a week or so ago. I think everyone had fun after they realized they were going to last longer than 5 minutes. I think we were all sore after but I blame the seats, not the workout. Here are some pics of us kicking some bike ass. It seems totally ironic that I am complaining of low numbers for our team on the one weekend I had to go away and miss a game. I haven't found out the results yet but I'm desperately hoping we won. Big thanks going out to my lastnamesake Tara Silzer for putting us through our paces. I think we both always grew up being asked about each other but it wasn't until I started at World Health that we actually met. Super cool chick!

Practicum

Well the results are in and my practicum will be at World Health Club. They are launching a new High Performance program designed to get teams in for sport specific training and testing and I will be working on the flagship project. I am hoping my own team will be up for being guinea pigs in this whole thing as part of my practicum requirement will be finding a team I can train for 4 months and then getting them in for some testing and stuff to see if I have improved them.

Haven't blogged for a bit - I'm also due to phone my mom back... Been busy with some more exams and assignments and stuff. Getting through all that once again. I am waiting patiently for my practicum assignment to be announced. I was very happy with all the interviews although I am usually way too nervous. The only one I didn't like as much was with the Police Service. I was able to point out things during the interview that demonstrated my knowledge but the guy interviewing me didn't ask me many questions about me or my skills so I felt like he already had someone in mind or something like that...

Soccer went off to a good start - we won our first game. I am back on defense and I am not sure how that will turn out... I don't know that I will get much playing time in coming games since competition is tight and my only chance to stand out for games is to play well in practice and practice is always after I work until 3am and go to class starting at 8am and going most of the day and then mustering energy to hit a 9:30pm practice. I try and nap in the evening but it almost always makes me feel more tired than when I tried to catch some Zzz's...

Daisy pictures will be forthcoming tomorrow since Steve is off to a stag party for pretty much the whole day.

We had our poker fundraiser last night... didn't start out very promising for me as I was getting dealt 8's and 3's all over the place. Steve's friend Will went out first and Steve soon followed. I was just happy I wasn't at the same table as any of my friends and so I didn't end up putting any of them out of the tournament. Long story short - 4am rolled around and I was 450$ richer. We managed to raise 800$ in the process. Slight drama of the evening was that some jerk decided he was going to steal some of the girls purses. Tasha called him on it and thankfully found everyones stuff in the guys truck. Unfortunately for the guy his getaway was blown by the fact he was too drunk to drive away with his loot.

Well now I am 28. Yeehaw!

I guess I got to the point a few months ago where I was telling everyone I was already 28 anyway. Steve made me an awesome dinner on Monday of zuchinni with goat cheese and sundried tomatoes as well as scallops in this amazing orange, lemon and ginger tomato sauce. Tuesday night all the ladies on Steve's side of the family took me out for dinner at the King and I and spoiled me rotten. Thank you everyone for all the wonderful and thoughtful gifts. On myactual birthday I had to head into work at the Attic but that was OK because all the patrons had fun with it being my birthday and nobody believed I was 28. I will complete my celebrations on Saturday at our soccer Poker Tournament Fundraiser for which Steve bought my buy in so I could play.

Mom - I will take a costume photo of Daisy for you soon. I haven't forgotten! I have several choices of costumes this year myself. I will have to find the best choice to wear to work and the best choice to wear to the annual kids Halloween party that the MacDonald's throw every year.

Arcade Fire Me

Good Morning 6:30am... rise and shine for your 8am exam. Then enjoy your hour and a half soccer class... (actually today we got to play rugby for warm up and then 9 a side soccer for the rest of the class... rugby was pathetic since my team decided that since we couldn't pass forward we weren't going to move forward either - I was that annoying guy yelling at everyone to move forward with the ball - not that I know squat about Rugby... but I know if you just keep throwing it backwards you are going to throw it over your own goal line............!) So we eventually got warmed up and then we played the soccer and our side won 2-1. Goals were scored based on crosses in. You couldn't score unless the ball was crossed in. I scored the first goal on a great cross from one of the Pandas (Claire) and I finished it with a header.

Skip forward to me going to the gym after exam, then running. Got home from school and gym and proceeded to do some first of the month grocery shopping with Mr.Steve. Got home just in time for biomechanics class which saddly I continue to think I understand some of it but feel like the guy that got left without the punchline.

Fast forward to the concert. Steve insisted on being there early. I was ten minutes off schedule and he got very pissy and drove like a maniac (for him anyway). We got there and the line didn't move for 40 minutes regardless. I would've had to likely skip class to get there in time to be first or third in line to get fun seats. He decided shortly thereafter that we didn't want seats anyway since all the areas with seats were for minors only and no beer was allowed.

Fast forward again to the opening bands. Both were actually very good but I was fairly burnt out from the early exam and soccer and gym and grocery shopping, etc. We ran into my team mate Beth and she professed her love for the Arcade Fire. This will come into play later.

Wolf Parade was pretty damn good. Alas i didn't know any of their songs and so I was fading fast. After their set finally finished, the roadies went on a tuning spree and I thought I was going to fall asleep on my feet. The Arcade Fire finally hit the stage and most of the songs were familiar and groovible. I was still fading in and out. I think in having this experience of going to all the concerts with Steve I have realized that to go to a live show I absolutely need to want to be there. My attention deficit kicks in when I don't know the words and stuff. I was wavering in and out of the concert. I enjoyed the parts I knew immensely but was quite shut out on the songs I didn't know. It wasn't until the encore that I pepped up. The song was actually about a dog the Russians sent into space (Laika I think) to see what would happen. He ended up dying and I thought that was pretty crap since I think any animals being tortured or hurt or whatever is pathetically cruel. Anyway... the song idea depressed me but then there is apparently a happy turn to the lyrics, or at least a very passionate one... I saw a girl in the crowd dead on to the beat and the feeling with her hands and arms ( couldn't see the rest of her) but it was pretty passionate the way the arms were moving to the song. It welcomed me back to the concert.

In any case - I still decided to run off to coat check to grab our stuff before the crowds. Turns out I had the right idea as the band left stage to tour up through Reds and into the coat check area. I was waiting for Steve when the band came up into the area. I thought I had one upped Steve but he was pretty much the 7th person through the curtain after the band. He decided my move towards beating the crowd was the right one and he followed the band on its way up. We all watched them play from a few yards away which was really cool. The best thing about it was that my team mate Beth was just about right there with us loving it up. Turns out her appreciation of The Arcade Fire runs true and deep. It lifted me up again to watch her enjoy the intimate finale.

Steve tells me that the concert eclipsed both the U2 concerts we saw this summer. That tells you something!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Super Super Run for Parkinsons

Well... Steve and I got up nice and early to go on the Parkinsons run. Thank you to everyone who donated and supported our run. The race started off well but hit a snag half way through as they were upgrading the golf course and doing some construction. The run wasn't well marked and both Steve and I made a wrong turn at the bottom of a hastily posted detour. Difference being he had the sense to turn back at the switch back (while still going the wrong way, but not as far as me and another girl and some kids did) and we continued on until we saw the train bridge and I finally called to the girl ahead of me and told her we should probably turn back. Don't know what ever happened to the kids....

I am posting a map with the course that we ran versus the course that the actual run was supposed to be... Steve and I both finished around 25 minutes or so last year and we out did ourselves this year with the detour. He finished at around 35 minutes and I hit around 41... surprising considering we did an extra K or two... not as much as I thought at first considering Steve and a few other people got turned the wrong way as well... they just figured it out before we did!

The exercise won't kill me though! Next year we are considering taking Daisy for the walk and forgoing the run... maybe Steve can walk the pooches and I will run 5km plus whatever I feel like throwing in because I can't tell what direction I am going in.

You can note on the intimate map of Rundle park that if you followed the red line and then did the switch back along the path heading back along the river then you would have completed the 5km course... the light blue shows the course Steve took. The loop on the larger map shows that several of us took a MUCH LONGER ROUTE... so much for following young kids...

Steve already made a good comment about the Lieutenant Governor razzing us because I have a partiallity for Red and Black. I would've told him straight up I hate football and would never support Calgary anyway but what would be the point. I should've said - Rah Rah Eskies!!!

Concert Go No More

Robert Plant I have to admit had tons of energy for an old guy... but the concert was still kind of a snooze and I was starting to get sick. Tuesday night I tried to recruit Mike to go with Steve to the System of a Down concert because I knew I'd be a drag but Mike didn't want to pay the 55$ to go so I bundled myself off to the concert. We had to wait a billion hours to get in because a full pat down was in effect so we missed most of Mars Volta which is who we really went to see in the first place. Someone was sitting in our seats so we sat on the end and then the people whos seats were on the end showed up and it was a gong show trying to get everyone to move out of our real seats. Neither of us much liked the crowd and when a guy lit up a cigarette next to us and the guys infront of us sparked a joint, Steve gave the OK to take off - thank god! I felt much to old to be at that concert. All the kids were annoying me. I guess I really am turning into a crank pot.

My camera has refused to close properly and when I took it to get it fixed they say it has to go to Calgary and will take up to 8 weeks to come back. It is lunch time here in Ryley. I know this because the air raid siren went off to announce it. Steve says I don't write enough in here and all I do it post photos so I guess I will write something. We beat Juventus last night. That's pretty sweet. So while we can't seem to conquer the crap teams at least we can put the gears to my two old teams. Thanks to Jill and Sarah for putting those Juve wenches in their place. Now that I think about it I don't have that much to say. I have a few photos from Steve and my anniversary dinner at the Unheard Of and I will post those later. I tried to get him to stop for a sec so we could get the server to take a photo of us together but I guess solo shots will have to do since it never happened. My parents arrive on Monday and my dad is going to come out to my soccer game on Tuesday. That will be the first time he's watched in 4 years. He'll be the guy with Steve and the pooches. Steve and I leave next Thursday to continue our anniversary type celebrations in Kelowna. Look for us on the white beaches of the cottage we rented on Davis Cove.

No pic today! Mom - Steve loved your post and so did I! You should've told us about Chyna's birthday - we celebrated Daisy's with a few cans of soft food to which she isn't used to. I bought Daisy a dog gate today so hopefully the gate will give her enough room without feeling trapped and naughty. I left her alone for a few hours this afternoon while Steve and Mike were golfing and Daisy found some muffins left in Steve's work bag. I am now starting my 5 weeks of hell. I am catching up from taking a spring class and not working. I will be working Monday thru Monday (10-6 this week until friday and then every day after that 8-4 until July 31st ) This is on top of Wednesdays 9pm - 3am and Saturdays 9pm - 3am... I will be working for what will seem like forever for 5 weeks to catch up. I will miss Steve and our 2 year anniversary mostly to work. I won't be home before 6pm on that night. Throw in soccer Tues/Thurs/Sun on top of bar work W/Sat and no days off for the next five weeks when I work pretty much 8 -4 and have to be up in time to be there by 8am and you realize that I will be up by 6am every morning and I wont be homew by 5pm at best... long days but I am trying to make the best of my last year and the future thought of loan payments. I hope Steve can deal with my work overload...

Disappointment

Well... we lost to the Lady Rangers... didn't suppose it would happen but sometimes I get superstitious, or maybe I get superstitious a lot about talking about stuff with expectations for things that haven't happened yet. If I think I nailed a test I did bad - if I think we should cream a team that was unimpressive (first example Spruce Grove) we don't pull it off. So far all we are doing is making it close for the top teams and divided for the middle of the table. We actually do have a better record so far compared to last year when we went the first 6 or 7 without a point... but by second round we had turned it up and we haven't seen that yet.

Practice was pretty good for a non-coaching effort. Heidi stop being so hard on yourself! We will pull it together I know we always do but it has to be pretty quick here. Keltie is not kidding in saying that beating Northwest is killer!!!!!!!!!!!

Work is the same torture as last summer except now I am making less money - I have to drive a crapload further - and I am working entire weekends with no days off and double days to compensate. Sorry if my intensity varied tonight from on to off. I wanted to make myself work hard all the time but I was a bit tired from the new work week and didn't give a billion percent. I have yet to have a game this season where I felt into it except for the brief period I got to play offensive Mid. That was pretty good. Too bad I duffed my best chance to put us in the lead right before the end of the first half. All in all we didn't play bad but we didn't make the most of our talent and options.

Mom - I started work and haven't taken in your cheque request yet - I will probably go tomorrow morning if I take Steve to work before I go.

I've been to Grande Prairie and back and those crazy bastards throw their fireworks at midnight on the day of Canada Day rather than at midnight on July 1st/2nd - so despite working on Thursday the 31 St and getting home at 3:30am and then having Steve drag me out of bed to drive to GP at 5:30am I still missed the fireworks because they were holding them while I was sucking in smoke on the last night ever for smoking in bars!!! That is something to celebrate in any case!!!!

Felt good to rip that goal in against my old team last Tuesday. Sorry I missed Mel's big camping/birthday bash. Happy Birthday Mel - and Amy too. Hey Mel - Huy didn't even say good game to me... We better win tomorrow against the Lady Rangers - they didn't impress me the first time out and I'm hoping we'll spank them this time around. Welcome back Tammy!
